Overview

Efimis is standardising matter roles across the platform as part of the upcoming terminology updates. These updates will take effect early April 2026.

This is a terminology update only. There are no changes to roles, permissions, or your data.

What Is Changing

The following matter roles in Efimis are being updated:

• Supervisor → Person Responsible
• Matter Fee Earner / Person Responsible → Person Acting
• Person Assisting → No change

These changes are purely visual. The underlying roles and responsibilities remain the same.

Why This Matters for Smokeball Users

If you primarily use Smokeball, you may notice differences in terminology when working in Efimis or receiving reports generated by Efimis.

Scenario:
You receive an Efimis report showing:

Person Responsible: John Smith

If you are used to Smokeball terminology, you might expect this to say:

Supervisor: John Smith

These are the same role, just under a new label.

How to Read Efimis Reports

When reviewing Efimis reports, use the following mapping to Smokeball terminology:

Keep this mapping handy when comparing Efimis reports with Smokeball or sharing data with colleagues.

Does This Affect Anything Else?

No.

• Matter assignments remain the same
• Permissions and access are unaffected
• Integration with Smokeball continues as before

Reminder: This change only affects the labels displayed within Efimis.

Using Efimis with the New Terminology

No action is required on your part. Your matter assignments, permissions, and integrations remain completely unchanged.

Key points to keep in mind:

• Reading reports: Remember the new labels when reviewing Efimis reports.
• Sharing reports: Colleagues who are used to Smokeball terminology may need a quick reminder of the mapping.
